Trezor’s May 2026 Suite update adds a mix of usability and security improvements across desktop and mobile. The most relevant change for custody is stronger device authenticity verification, which helps users avoid trusting a compromised or counterfeit setup.
The update introduces Suite Sync label migration, better WalletConnect warnings, a passphrase Caps Lock warning, and device authenticity verification with MCU MLDSA support. Trezor also tightened several workflow edges that reduce avoidable user errors during setup and signing.
Mistakes during authentication or signing can be as damaging as a direct compromise if they lead to a bad approval or a failed recovery. For wallet users, a single error can mean locked access, a mistaken send, or a counterfeit-device trust failure.
Cold storage works best when the device itself can validate authenticity and force clear user intent before signing. Those controls reduce blind trust, which is one of the main ways seed loss and transaction fraud become permanent losses.
