Ledger published a major update on clear signing and transaction safety. The post frames clear signing as the answer to blind signing, and says governance for ERC-7730 is moving to the Ethereum Foundation.
Ledger describes ERC-7730 v2 as a broader, more expressive clear-signing standard with cross-chain support and easier integration. It is also open-sourcing internal tooling so others can build and audit clear-signing definitions.
Ledger cites billions stolen through attacks that exploit opaque approvals and blind signing. When users cannot read what they sign, a single approval can drain funds or expose custody assets.
Hardware wallets help, but the key is readable transaction intent on a trusted screen. Clear signing reduces approval risk by making self-custody safer and giving offline wallets better human-readable safeguards.
