Cloudflare published a Q1 2026 disruption review showing how fragile online access can be during shutdowns, power failures, and conflict. The report spans nationwide blackouts, grid collapses, and cloud infrastructure impacts.
Cloudflare documented prolonged Internet blackouts in Uganda and Iran, repeated grid collapses in Cuba, and other outage events across multiple regions. The company also noted that military activity disrupted connectivity and even affected hyperscaler cloud infrastructure in the Middle East.
When connectivity disappears, so does access to cloud-hosted systems, backups, and admin consoles that live only online. For organizations under shutdown or attack pressure, a single outage can turn routine recovery into a hard operational freeze.
Cold storage keeps critical recovery material offline and out of the blast radius of Internet disruptions. If your live environment is unreachable, offline copies and detached recovery procedures are what keep you from losing control of the data.
